Preventative Care

The best treatment for tooth and gum problems is to prevent them before they start. Good oral hygiene habits, twice-daily brushings and regular flossing – are necessary, but are not enough. Regular oral examinations and professional cleanings are an essential part of maintaining the health of your mouth and teeth. At City Edge Dental of Norwood Park You’ll receive the most thorough dental exam possible. With the use of state-of-the-art equipment such as the intraoral camera and the Diagnodent™, we can spot small problems before they grow.

Preventive care is easy with our gentle ultrasonic cleanings. Plus, we provide fluoride treatments and dental sealants as strong, invisible barriers against decay. As part of our general dentistry practice we emphasize comprehensive dental treatments, including fluoride treatments, professional breath control, and periodontal care. Parents are encouraged to schedule regular appointments for their children.

invisalign-logoInvisalign® invisible braces are the clear alternative to metal braces. It is the modern approach to straightening teeth. A series custom- made aligners or trays are fabricated to be worn over your teeth. There are no metal brackets or metal wires to be adjusted. The aligners are smooth, comfortable plastic and virtually invisible. The aligners are worn and changed approximately every two weeks until your treatment is complete and you have achieved the new smile that you’ve always wanted.

Dental Implants

The key benefit of dental implants over other tooth replacement systems is that an implant connects directly to the jaw bone. When a tooth is lost, bone loss will eventually occur in that region because the root is no longer stimulating and stabilizing the bone. By using titanium–which biochemically joins to bone–to replace the root, you get a bond that more accurately replicates the one found in nature.

When you lose a tooth, especially a back tooth, you may feel you don’t need to replace it, since no one can see that it’s missing and you have plenty of other teeth. However, there is more bone loss going on under the surface once a tooth is lost. Surrounding each tooth is an alveolar bone that supports the tooth and when the tooth is lost, that bone basically melts away. This is why people who have lost most of their teeth and are not wearing dentures appear to have a caved-in appearance to their mouths.

Besides causing damage to the immediate area, tooth loss affects remaining teeth as well. Teeth create a structure for the face and their loss can shift the surrounding teeth, creating esthetic issues and bite problems. A lost tooth can also affect facial structures such as the jaw, muscles, jaw joints, and even the skin. If several teeth are lost, it’s not uncommon to suffer from social consequences and poor nutrition.

Replacing a tooth with an implant and a crown is not a one-day procedure. The implant needs time to properly adhere to the bone and create a healthy fusion before the crown can be attached and full bite force can be applied. In most cases, it will take a few months to complete the process.

Fillings & Crowns

White, composite fillings can cosmetically blend with the adjacent tooth much better than old metal fillings, and they also offer a number of health-related benefits. As opposed to metal fillings, tooth colored fillings are bonded to healthy tooth structure. Additionally, composite fillings are not as temperature-sensitive as metal, so they do not expand as much with heat helping avoid cracking of the tooth over time.

Crowns are long lasting restorations that are used to restore teeth that have been weakened or damaged due to decay, fracture, cracks, large fillings, root canal therapy or trauma. Crowns are popularly known as “caps”.

Veneers are a cost-effective type of cosmetic dentistry that can improve discolored, worn, chipped, or crooked teeth in your smile. Veneers are also a valuable way to protect the teeth from future problems associated with staining agents in your diet or habits. These restorations can be used to create a beautiful rejuvenated new smile!

Like most people, you may want a whiter, brighter smile. After all, a smile affects your relationships, and has a lasting impression on your self-image. When your smile is bright and beautiful, you are more likely to use it. For many patients, creating a smile that makes you feel more confident, is simply a matter of getting their teeth whitened!

Take Home Whitening System is the most popular approach for the reason that it is more affordable and allows you to whiten your teeth at your convenience—in a safe, effective, and personalized way. This utilizes a custom-made tray and prescription strength whitening gels that you will use every day. Some patients notice results in less than 2 weeks.

In-Office Power Whitening System gives you brighter smile in just one visit. This system utilizes a higher strength whitening gel and the use of a powerful Activation light to enhance the gel’s effects. Results are visible in 60 minutes or less. To prevent sensitivity issues, the system also features a desensitizing enhancer with fluoride.

Root Canals

Endodontic treatment or famously known as root canal treatment is one of the most feared procedures in the dental field. A root canal therapy is required to remove a painful or infected dental nerve. The procedure involves removal of the nerves from the canals within the root of the tooth. Then the root canals are thorough cleaned, shaped and disinfected to receive the specialized root canal filling material and medicated cement to seal the root canal. Thanks to today’s technology, there are many advances in dentistry that allow you to undergo a comfortable experience even when having a root canal treatment!

While we will try to do as much as we can to save your teeth, it is not always possible. Extractions are sometimes the only treatment that can be done for a tooth that has a deep stress fracture, a substantial amount of decay, or is severely broken.
